If you’re searching for Baltimore real estate and wondering where in Baltimore you should buy a house? On the East Side, West Side, North of the City, or right near 95/295? Here’s what everyone should know…The answer depends on who you ask. Of course natives can’t believe you would need to ask the question since they are so committed to their communities that they think their neighborhood is the obvious choice. And even transplants will say they have a sense of being at “home” now that they live in Baltimore.
The question of where to live might be posed by someone who’s seen the neighborhood that the HBO show “The Wire” is shot (no pun intended) or another person who discovers how luxurious The Ritz Carlton Residences are. How can each be in the same city? Is Baltimore real estate really that diverse?
Baltimore has a rich history and is overflowing with charm and character. Yes, there are areas that are less safe than others, but one of the many things that make Baltimore unique is its diversity.
Baltimore Realtors often asked “What’s the next up and coming neighborhood?” Most would agree that some of the popular university or waterfront neighborhoods such as Canton, Charles Village or Fells Points are no secret.
But what about the next neighborhood on the brink of discovery? For years the next “up and coming” neighborhood may have been determined by where the City of Baltimore was offering a number of SCOPE, city owned properties for sale (i.e. Reservoir Hill or Hollins Market). Truth be told, in Baltimore there are more than 200 neighborhoods. Any number of them at one time can be undergoing a substantial amount of revitalization and renewed community involvement. Baltimore real estate has many diverse characteristics.
Baltimore is home to Johns Hopkins University, a world leader in research & education in medicine, public health, the arts, sciences, and engineering. And Johns Hopkins Hospital, which provides patient care to people in Baltimore and those around the world.
Is Baltimore a place that you can call home? Well “hon”…. If you have an appreciation for the world’s best crabs, charming historic homes with original details such as exposed brick walls, crown molding, & marble mantles that date back to the turn of the century, I’d say the answer is YES.
If you would enjoy living within walking distance of restaurants with a mix of regional culture and ethnic cuisines such as homemade pasta and Italian pizzerias in Little Italy, exciting Indian food in Mt. Vernon or native seafood in Fells Point, I’d say the answer is DEFINITELY! After dinner, you might enjoy a visit to the historic Hippodrome Theater to take in a live performance or shopping in quaint neighborhood shops. If this is a lifestyle that suits you then Baltimore may just be a place you can call home.
